What Charitable Giving Means to Us

August 28, 2023

Since the launch of the Elan Charitable Giving program in 2022, Elan has volunteered over 150 hours alongside our credit union partners.

From food banks to financial education, hear from Elan Credit Card employees about the impact these experiences have had on them.

Stephen Nance, Payments Services Advisor, spent two days in Dallas helping youth through a financial literacy experience. The event, presented in partnership with African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC), gave 200 middle school students the opportunity to learn about budgeting.

“I have been to multiple events with AACUC and it has been a great experience each time. It puts into perspective that we are doing more than just credit cards; we are helping provide a great human experience with access to a financial tool,” stated Nance.

“I loved volunteering with Minnesota-based partner Wakota Federal Credit Union as we assembled emergency food bags for Neighbors, Inc. We did meaningful work in the community and had fun along the way,” shared Erica Mehlhop, Payments Solutions Advisor. Mehlhop and four other Elan Credit Card staff spent an afternoon packing 100 emergency food kits for those in need.

Also supporting food insecurity, Ryan McDonald, packed and delivered over 200 meals for the community with partner Penlanco Federal Credit Union in Pennsylvania.

McDonald, Senior Product Manager said, “As an Elan Credit Card employee, I find it extremely fulfilling to work for an institution that has broadened its vision beyond helping our customers succeed and expanded its efforts to helping communities succeed. Experiencing the benefits that a small amount of effort towards a worthwhile cause can yield is very motivating. I’d encourage anyone who can spare the time, to make a positive impact on their community. Good companies find strong communities to do business in, great companies build strong communities to do business in.”

In Arizona, Data Analyst Rolando Russell, assembled birthday dream bags for children in foster care with partner Copper State Credit Union. Russell shared, “As a new employee of Elan Credit Card, the opportunity to meet teammates in person while making a difference was an incredible experience. The birthday dream bags make children on their foster care journey feel special and I was proud to contribute my time to that gift."

Senior Marketing Project Manager, Kaitlin Schlick, volunteered at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital alongside partner Heartland Credit Union to support children and families. “It’s been incredible to watch the Elan Charitable Giving program blossom over the last few years. Stepping outside the office and into the community together makes us better individuals and a stronger team — and I’m grateful for the opportunity,” she shared.
